The memorial stone from Camp Bastion in Afghanistan

The memorial to the fallen soldiers in Helmand, Afghanistan, symbolises both a heroic and sorrowful chapter in recent Danish military history.

The names of a total of 38 soldiers are inscribed on the Army Memorial Stone. In 2014, the memorial stone was flown from Camp Bastion to Oksbøl Camp, where it now has a prominent location by the lake. For many relatives, the site serves as a source of comfort and a place for reflection, while the memorial stone also stands as a lasting remembrance for future generations.

The Army Memorial Stone was created by ISAF Contingent 6 and was erected in 2009 at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province. The memorial stone is 233 centimetres high and bears a brass plaque with the names of the soldiers who lost their lives during their deployment at Camp Bastion.
