Communal House of 144 m² for a Residential Block

The communal house is a light and transparent 144 m² building, centrally located within the residential block as a natural gathering point for the residents. The continuous glass façade and the distinctive pitched roof create an open and inviting expression, providing a strong visual connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The building is constructed with a slender load-bearing steel structure and large glazed sections, ensuring abundant daylight and flexible possibilities for use. The building has been designed in construction class 2 (KK2), and the steel structure is dimensioned to meet fire resistance requirements of R30. The communal house is conceived as a multifunctional space for shared meals, events, residents’ meetings and informal gatherings across generations.

The choice of materials supports the interaction with the surrounding residential buildings and the shared courtyard, where the communal house serves as an architectural focal point. The transparent façades make the life inside the building visible and contribute to a sense of safety, activity and community within the block – both during the day and in the evening.

The communal house is a social and architectural intervention that strengthens neighbourliness, shared identity and everyday life within the development.
